Elavon

Also called Elavon Merchant Services, U.S. Bank merchant services, Monarch

U.S. Bank's merchant acquirer. Boring in the best way, with the most transparent partner program of any major and zero published merchant pricing.

What it is

Elavon is the merchant acquiring arm of U.S. Bank. It processes for merchants of every size across the US, Canada and Europe, and its calling card is stability rather than innovation — while Fiserv cuts guidance and Global Payments integrates Worldpay, Elavon has been quietly doing the same thing it was doing three years ago. Its merchant-facing product set includes talech and talech Mobile POS, eCommerce solutions, gateways, and Quick Capital working capital funding through Liberis. Its published proof point is operational rather than promotional: 91% of merchants funded within two business days, as of May 2025 — a dated, specific, falsifiable statistic, which is rarer in this industry than it should be. It also markets same-day funding and 24/7/365 support. Where Elavon genuinely stands out is the partner channel. It is the only major acquirer with "Partners" in its primary navigation and a fully documented multi-track program: ISO/MSP, Agent (the Monarch program), Referral, Integrated, Payment Facilitator, Financial Institution and Affinity. The Monarch agent program lets agents avoid ISO registration cost, assigns portfolio management to the agent, and promises 24-hour application decisioning. The ISO/MSP program publicly commits to "no exclusivity or minimum revenue commitments and residual advance programs" — a rare, quotable commitment in a category where nobody publishes anything. Elavon says it has supported more than 265 ISOs and MSPs over 30-plus years.

Why it matters to your business

Elavon is the counterexample you can hold every other processor to. When a competitor tells you exclusivity and minimum-volume commitments are just how the industry works, you can point at a top-five acquirer publishing the opposite. That's useful leverage even if you never sign with them. If funding speed matters to your business — and for a seasonal restaurant or a contractor managing payroll against deposits, it usually matters more than 15 basis points — Elavon's 91%-funded-within-two-business-days figure is a real, dated benchmark to hold any processor's promise against.

Where it gets contested

Elavon's transparency runs in exactly one direction. It publishes more partner-program detail than any competitor and publishes zero merchant pricing — no rates, no monthly fees, no hardware prices, no contract lengths, no early termination fees. Its "See our plans" call to action does not lead to a public rate card. For a merchant, that is the same opacity as everyone else, dressed in friendlier language. Even on the partner side, the omission is telling: Elavon does not publish residual vesting or ownership terms, which experienced agents consider the single most important term in the agreement. Neither does anyone else, but Elavon is closest to publishing enough to make the gap conspicuous. On product, the honest assessment is that talech is a weaker restaurant POS than SkyTab, SpotOn or Toast, brand awareness among restaurant owners is low, and the marketing site is generic relative to the newer players. Elavon competes on stability, funding speed and contract fairness rather than on software. For a merchant who values those things — and many should — that is a legitimate trade. For a full-service restaurant that needs coursing, floor plans and deep table management, it usually isn't.

How to check it yourself

Ask any processor you're considering to put two things in writing: whether your agreement contains an exclusivity clause or minimum volume commitment, and what percentage of their merchants fund within two business days. Elavon publishes commitments on both. Use them as the benchmark.
