Privacy
What we collect, and what we don't.
Short version: we take what you type into a form, roughly where you are so we can show you the right phone number, and which pages you looked at. We don't sell any of it and we don't run ad trackers.
What you give us on purpose
When you fill in a form, ask for a review, or sign up for the monthly email, we get what you typed. Usually that's a name, a phone number or email address, and sometimes your business name and what you're trying to fix.
If you send us a statement, we read it. That document has your processing volume, your fees and your merchant account number on it. We use it to work out what you're actually paying and to tell you what we'd change. We don't pass it to a processor unless you ask us to move, and we'll say so before we do.
What we collect automatically
Which pages you looked at. Kept in your browser, not on our server. The last twelve pages, the systems you compared, and where you first arrived from. If you then fill in a form, that summary goes with it, so whoever calls you back already knows what you were reading and you don't have to start over.
Roughly where you are. Our host tells us your country and state from your IP address. We use it for one thing: showing the Michigan number to people in Michigan and the Florida number to everyone else. We never see your street or your exact location, and we don't store it beyond the record of any enquiry you send.
Page performance and visit counts. Vercel Analytics, which is how we know which guides are worth writing. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't build a profile of you across other websites.
Cookies
One. It's called vg_ref and it lasts 30 days.
If somebody from Vigilant hands you a business card and you scan the code on it, that cookie records who gave you the card, so they get credit if you become a client. It holds one word — that person's name as a short code. No personal information about you is in it, and nothing reads it except this website.
We also keep a few things in your browser's own storage, which is not a cookie and never leaves your device unless you submit a form: where you first arrived from, the pages above, and which phone number to show you. Clearing your browser data for this site removes all of it.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information. Not to processors, not to lead brokers, not to anyone.
- There is no Google Analytics, Meta pixel, Reddit pixel or advertising tracker on this site.
- We don't record your screen or your mouse movements.
- We don't try to identify you across other websites.
- We serve our own typefaces. Loading a page here doesn't tell Google, or anyone else, that you visited.
- The self-check tool at /review keeps its result on your device. It never reaches us and it asks for no contact details.
Who else sees it
Companies that run parts of this for us. Each one only gets what it needs to do its job, and none of them are allowed to use it for their own purposes.
- Vercel — hosts the site and gives us the country and state above.
- Web3Forms — turns a submitted form into an email to us.
- GoHighLevel — our CRM. Enquiries land here so nothing gets lost.
- Resend and Twilio — email and text us when an enquiry arrives.
We'll also hand over information if the law requires it. If that ever happens and we're allowed to tell you, we will.
How long we keep it
We keep an enquiry and anything you sent with it for as long as we are working with you, and afterwards while it is still useful to the next conversation. We have not set a fixed period yet. Ask us to delete yours and we will.
Getting your information, or getting rid of it
Email connect@vigilantpayments.com or call (239) 450-2639 and ask. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We'll do it, and we won't treat you differently for asking.
You can stop the monthly email with the unsubscribe link in any of them. That doesn't delete your enquiry; tell us if you want that gone too.
Children
This site is for people running businesses. We don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13, and if we find that we have, we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we change this page and move the date at the top. We're a small company and this site is still being built, so that will happen.
Who we are
