Not one we lead with. We can board this if you want it. It is not one we know inside out, so we would be setting it up rather than advising you on it — and we would tell you that before you signed anything. Talk it through with us.

An independent assessment. Vigilant can place SwipeSimple, and is paid the same either way — which is why the drawbacks are on this page too.

What it is

SwipeSimple is the answer for a business that needs to take a card but should not be buying a POS. It runs on a phone, tablet or computer you already own, pairs with a Bluetooth EMV reader, and includes a proper gateway rather than just a card reader app.

On the mobile side you get a full POS: items, inventory that syncs across devices, card on file, text-to-pay invoices sent from the van, and receipts by email or SMS. On the web side you get a virtual terminal with Level 2 and Level 3 support, hosted payment pages, payment links you can put in a newsletter, and scheduled and recurring payments.

There is also an appointment scheduling module, which makes it a reasonable single tool for a mobile service business that does not need FieldPulse.

Who it fits

Best for

Mobile and field businesses, trades, consultants, market vendors and anyone taking payment away from a counter.

Probably not ideal for

Anywhere with a real counter and queue. Buy a terminal or a POS instead.

Strengths and tradeoffs

Strengths

  • About as simple as card acceptance gets — a reader, a phone, and you are taking payments.
  • Countertop and mobile options on the same account, so the van and the shop match.
  • A basic item catalogue and simple reporting included, which is enough for a small operation.
  • Invoicing and virtual terminal for the jobs that get paid later.
  • Low commitment and quick to deploy, with support behind it.

Tradeoffs

  • Deliberately limited — no inventory depth, no staff management, no table service.
  • Tied to the merchant account, so the rate is set at signing rather than shopped later.
  • Not a growth platform; a busy business will outgrow it within a year or two.
  • Reporting is thin compared with a real POS.
  • No dual pricing focus, so it will not cut your card cost the way the other two can.

Pricing

Low monthly plus processing, with no equipment cost if you use your own device. The cheapest legitimate way we know to start accepting cards properly.

Pricing reflects what the vendor publishes or what we have seen quoted. Your actual terms depend on volume, card mix and what is negotiated — which is the part we do.

Hardware

  • Bluetooth EMV reader — tap, chip and swipe
  • Optional receipt printer
  • Optional cash drawer

Drawings are schematic — they show the shape and rough proportions of each device, not an exact rendering of one model. SwipeSimple hardware options and pricing depend on the programme, so ask and we will quote it.

Vigilant's assessment

Right for a one-van trade, a market stall or a consultant who needs to take a card occasionally and does not want a system. If you are ringing up more than a handful of items or managing staff, you have already outgrown it.

How it compares

The simplest end of the market. The honest question is whether simple is what you need, or just what is easiest to buy.

Verdict. Mobile and occasional: SwipeSimple. Fixed counter with real card volume: Dejavoo or Valor, and the dual-pricing decision is worth a proper conversation before you commit.
